Biography

Matthew Turner grew up in Illinois, and New Hampshire.  He started working at age 15 in a restaurant, grocery store, and lake as a lifeguard holding down three jobs at a time.  Working hard was the norm growing up on the northeast New Hampshire seacoast.  Matthew attended the University of NH for 3 years and studied Environmental Science, transferred to the University of NM, Albuquerque and finished his degree in Environmental Sciences.  He received a minor in Philosophy.  During this time in college, he did an internship as a interpretive and rope tour guide in the jungles of Monteverde, Costa Rica. 

Upon graduation, he decided he wanted to not only help the environment but people as well.  He went into Social Work as a full time career working as a Case Manager for dual diagnosed adults.  He worked with Psychiatrists and Psychologists on rehabilitation plans and community and environmental services and programs for the disabled population.  After 7 years of Social Work, Matthew decided he wanted to get solely involved in the environment as he felt the time was ripe for sustainability practices to actually be accepted by the mainstream and he became ill from a work pesticide exposure that altered his life forever.  He developed an autoimmune disease that has devastated his health from the toxins that our government has allowed into the marketplace. This prompted Matthew to become an activist in banning certain toxins.  He also renovated 2 houses to be 'green' one in Asheville, NC and one in Austin, TX and built a small cabin in the woods of North Carolina that was constructed with completely green natural materials.  He has consulted privately for 8 years on green building practices and environmental issues, including 'sick buildings' and chemical use. 

Matthew has owned and managed several businesses over his lifetime, including full financial management of mental health facilities, a restaurant, web based businesses, and general business management and accounting.  In college, he was a Resident Assistant, a Recycling Coordinator, and Treasurer and was always active in University politics.  In June of 2006, Matthew started Vibrant Sedona, and was instrumental in helping the city of Sedona to switch to non-toxic herbicide use on the roadways.  Recently, he had been instrumental as Director of Green Sedona in pushing the city of Sedona to switch within all city facilities to non-toxic natural pesticides and herbicides and natural cleaning.  He and Hollywood star Suzy Chaffee worked together to make Sedona "A model of sustainability for the world" through their non-profit organization Green Sedona.  

Eventually this led Matthew to run for Mayor of Sedona and Suzy for City Council.  They wanted to set an example to the world to change Washington DC policy at the local level and had some Washington DC support, Republican and Democrats including an Ambassador under Reagan who was active on McCain's finance committee, A United Nations Program Director and Clinton advisor, a Time Magazine Family member, and of course Suzy herself who has worked under several presidents .  However, they were threatened by various means including pay phone calls to drop out or else, a death threat of a JFK video with the limo driver killing JFK showing them the frame where the limo driver pulls out a gun from under the dashboard and shoots JFK, and a U.S. mail letter.  They soon left Sedona after the election feeling as if there was a global connection to what happened to them and deciding that they could accomplish the work they had been doing just as well in another location by other means. 

Matthew and Suzy have both been interested in Channeling and other psychic phenomena for most of their lives.  Shortly after moving to Sedona Matthew attended a channeling with Suzy Chaffee fully intending to leave the group without asking any questions.  The woman next to him said that the Angels and Ascended beings had a message for him.  This message confirmed for Matthew and Suzy their life work and help motivate Matthew to continue on his path that he has so strongly been guided by the Ascended Masters (channeled through his Mother's close friend, since he was a child) to fulfill.  Click on the photo below to hear the channeled message.

Below is a copy of Matthew's Executive Campaign Team Webpage, which included Suzy Chaffee, when he ran for Mayor of Sedona.  There were people in Washington helping Matthew write his speeches.  While running for Mayor he had two different psychics in the Sedona community come up to him in the street randomly during the election.   One said that someone was actively trying to kill Suzy and him and another said that they felt there was a Washington dark force behind their campaign that was keeping Suzy and him from winning the election and trying to run them out of town.  He was also accused of being part of the Illuminati and the New World Order several times during his campaign because of the Clinton's reference on his Campaign Team Homepage.  Also the investigation of the people behind the JFK death threat were never found.

Suzy 'Chapstick' Chaffee (Campaign Advisor)

Suzanne "Suzy" Chaffee  is an Olympic skier and actress. She is  more commonly known by her nickname, Suzy Chapstick, from a time in the 1970s and early-1980s when she was a spokesperson for ChapStick.  Chaffee was the top-ranked U.S. skier at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, France. She was also a three-time world freestyle skiing champion (1971-73). She was inducted into the United States National Ski Hall of Fame in 1988.  As a social activist, Chaffee championed Title IX legislation (Equal Opportunity for Women in School Sports). She was the first woman to serve on the board of the United States Olympic Committee, and has been a member of the President's Council on Physical Fitness under four U.S. presidents including Carter, Reagan, Ford, and Nixon. She was a co-founder of the Native Voices Foundation, an organization that seeks to develop Olympians from among Native American tribes.  She was featured in a long-running television ad campaign for ChapStick in the 1970s. She has appeared in films such as Ski Lift To Death and Fire and Ice.

Michael has more than 20 years experience shaping social policy and advocating social change from inside government -- for 10 years as chief counsel to Senator Kennedy, 5 years as senior policy advisor to President Clinton, and 5 years as the US Director of the Joint United Nations Program for HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). He now resides in Sedona but continues to provide policy and strategy consulting services to a host of progressive humanitarian organizations including the UN.

Howard Shanker (Campaign Attorney) Attorney and Congressional Candidate

Howard Shanker is the son of a decorated WWII veteran, a family man, and a small business owner. Howard, his wife Tamera, their teenage daughters Rachel and Samara, and their 5 year old son Ethan are long-time Arizonans. Jim was head of 'Save the Trees' in Sedona and stopped ADOT from cutting down 76 beautiful Sycamores on 179 in Tlaquepaque.  Jim graduated in 1985 with a AS degree in Environmental Horticulture from Santa Fe Community College in Florida. In Florida he won first place awards two years in a row from the Gainesville City Beautification Board for his work on the Civitan Regional Blood Bank water garden and Japanese theme garden; he partook in the design and layout of Gainesville Utilities Reclaimed Water Gardens at Kanapaha Botanical Gardens; landscaped the University of Florida Microbiology Lab & Sports Recreation Facility Baseball quad park, the North Florida Regional Hospital Grounds, Relic's Restaurant in Sedona, the Desert Hills Bank in Sedona, the Alma De Sedona Bed & Breakfast, and thousands of residential jobs.

Chele’s mission is to “Simplify the Healthy Lifestyle”  her program is called the “Full Circle” introducing healing modalities for environmental, physical, emotional, and spiritual, growth; along with continuing to develop the Sedona “Healing Connections” for those wanting to make lifestyle changes, to find practioneers,  services, and products.  Chele will be featured at the 2008 Sedona Marathon, promoting how the nutrients of raw & living foods can benefit the physical body for athletic performance.

Jerry Gilden (Campaign Treasurer), Former TV Producer Executive for Wink Martindale & Lawrence Welk, 4 year Vice Chair of Sedona Art and Culture Commission

Jerry Gilden, 20 year Sedona resident and former television executive was formally partnered with game show host Wink Martindale and collectively created a number of television game shows.  He also served as President of Lawrence Welks’ Entertainment Group and most recently served as a four year Vice-Chairman of the City of Sedona’s Art and Culture Commission.  Amongst his accomplishment at the Commission was the establishment of “art in private places” which created an ordinance for private developers to display public art as part of their approved development. 

 

Gary Ehlenberger (Campaign Assistant), Retired Staff Scientist, Member of the Technical Staff, Motorola

Gary has a B.S. degree in Mathematics and is a retired Motorola Staff Scientist.  He is currently involved in critiquing new ideas in science and technology with a network of fellow scientists. Gary is very knowledgeable in the scientific realm.  Gary's passion is science and technology.  He is involved in finding cutting edge sustainable solutions for Sedona and the world!
